The Geums garden perennials are considered as traditional favorites, particularly for cottage gardens. Nevertheless, they are gaining in acceptance due to the diverse varieties that are available in vibrant colors. These plants are relatively easy to grow as long as they are well drained and rich soil.
It is best to plant geums under full exposure to the sun, even though some varieties can endure some fractional shade. These plants are pest-free and deer-resistant. The blooming time starts during the late spring and lasts up to early summer, while some varieties spans up to the autumn season. Geums can provide you with blooms that are buttercup in form with consistent deadheading. In the colder climates, geums require a good layer of mulch as a defense for the winter.
Majority of geums can be divided easily since they are clump-forming and easy to grow. After a year, you can dig several small sections with healthy roots from any variety or you can do this by lifting the entire plant from the ground using a garden fork and then separate them into individual pieces that will be planted.
There are several geum varieties that you can add to your garden. The geum Lady Stratheden provides blooms with a cool shade of yellow. It grows up to 24 inches in both height and width and can effectively brighten up any partially shaded area with the yellow blossoms. The geum Fireball has multitudes of semi-double apricot to orange colored blossoms with tangled edges of red that shines out under the sun, and will make a beautiful addition to most gardens. We hope you have found this information on Geums garden perennials helpful.
