Perennial Garden Plants

For gardens that flowers all year round

Perennial garden plants are perfect solution for anybody who loves having a garden in full bloom all year round. Most perennials will bloom for at least 3 to 4 weeks each season, they need less water as compared to annuals and biennials and they are also less susceptible to pest issues.  For a picture perfect garden that is always in bloom, make sure you select a variety of perennial plants that bloom at different times of the year.

Perennial Garden Plants for Spring,

These include red and orange red hot poker, trumpet vine and bridges penstemon; pink Mexican primrose and Jupiter’s beard; purple delphiniums, lupines, lavender and agastache; white and gold evening primrose, Artemisia, golden Marguerite and santolina.

Fall bloomers blossom from about August till October and include red cardinal flowers, bee balms and knautias; pink Japanese anemones, sedums and garden pinks; purple asters, fairies thimbles and bugleweeds; white and yellow spiderworts, garden chrysanthemums, snowdrop anemones and the common sneezeweed.

Caring for Perennial Garden Plants

Caring for your perennials begins with carefully choosing where you plant them. Perennials that are intolerant to drought should be placed in lower spots so that they can receive any runoff of extra water, whereas drought resistant species can be planted in higher spots. Soil preparation is key to caring for your perennial plants.

Adding organic matter such as compost to the soil before planting helps enrich the soil and applying mulch after planting helps conserve moisture.Installing drip systems with timers makes irrigation easier and will ensure your perennials stay hydrated even on the hottest day.
